Free Prairie-Flusstal Puppy!!

Breeding for the future of Deutsch Drahthaars...

With my first litter planned for this spring, I have been thinking a lot about how I want to handle puppy placement.  I am not breeding just to produce puppies or just because I want another dog like my own, but rather, I am breeding to try to produce those genetics that I think could positively contribute to the next generation of Deutsch Drahthaars.  Maybe it is because I used to be very involved with a rare breed, but I have always had the goal of getting at least one male and one female certified for breeding from each litter.  Of course I would love to see all of the puppies tested to provide more data for future breeding decisions as well, but ultimately, I believe that the success of a litter is ultimately determined by the progeny in future generations.

Even though the Deutsch Drahthaar genepool is larger than that of Deutsch Langhaars, I still want to plan every breeding with the hope that some of the puppies will eventually qualify for breeding and be a part of the future for the Drahthaar breed.  As much as I would like to, I definitely cannot keep 2 puppies from every litter.  I would like to keep 1 puppy from most litters but it is much more feasible for me to keep female puppies.  I do not have a fancy kennel facility so separating intact males from intact females in heat is pretty much a nightmare.  And yet I feel like getting males certified for breeding is equally, if not more important.  I would love to see hunters training/testing/certifying males at the same rate as hunters training/testing/certifying females.  I want to find a way to try to ensure that at least 1 male puppy has a great opportunity at getting certified for breeding out of my "A" litter (and hopefully future litters beyond that).

I will be offering 1 male puppy from my "A" Litter to someone who has previously gotten a Deutsch Drahthaar certified for breeding.  I would prefer to place the pup with a judge or someone who has also completed a VGP, but the minimum qualification is someone who has previously certified a DD for breeding.  If you are interested in a puppy from my "A" Litter, have previously certified a DD for breeding, and can commit to making every effort to certify a Prairie-Flusstal puppy for breeding, please email me with the following information:

  • Your Name and Contact Info (Phone, Email, and City/State)
  • Your Hunting Experience
  • Your Judge Number (if applicable)
  • Your Testing Record (list # of VJPs, HZPs, and VGPs passed)
  • Name(s) of Dog(s) You Have Previously Certified for Breeding
  • Names/Contact Info for 3 References

I will consider all "applications" until our "A" Litter is whelped (expected in June 2023).  I will follow up your original email with a phone call.  I will determine who I will be placing the Free Puppy with when our "A" Litter is 1 week of age.  That will give the new owner 7-8 weeks to make travel arrangements to pick up their puppy and prepare for the new pup.  I will work with the recipient of this puppy to select the puppy that best suites their needs (coat color, coat length, temperament, etc.) in addition to being a good breeding prospect at 8 weeks of age.  More details can be found by clicking on the button below to view the Free Puppy Contract.  Thank you in advance to folks who are willing to support me in my breeding goals.  If this works well, I will attempt to offer 1 Free Puppy to a qualified candidate from each Prairie-Flusstal litter in the future.
